What does a clutch cover do?

Think of a clutch cover as a heavy-duty, spring-loaded clamp that takes its job very seriously.压盘_副本

In a nutshell, it does two things:

When it CLAMPS DOWN, the engine’s power gets sent straight to the wheels.

You let go of the clutch pedal, and the giant spring inside pushes the clutch plate

right up against the engine’s spinning flywheel—locking them together. That’s how the car moves.

When it LETS GO, the power gets cut. Press the pedal, and a little bearing pushes

the spring’s “fingers” inside the cover, which makes the clamping plate back off.

The clutch plate is free, the engine spins on its own, and you can shift gears.

So every time you work the clutch pedal, you’re basically telling this clamp: “Grab now…

Okay, let go now.” It’s got to squeeze hard enough to not slip, and release cleanly so things don’t grind. It’s a simple part doing a tough job, over and over—and getting it right is what makes driving smooth.

Description about the clutch cover

In simple terms, the clutch cover is like a "big clamp." Its job is to tightly clamp the "driver blade" (driven disc/clutch disc) shown at the bottom of the image against the engine flywheel. When clamped, the power is transmitted, and the car can move. When released, the power is cut off, allowing you to shift gears.
So, how is this "big clamp" put together? The diagram makes it very clear:
The Main Clamping Plate: That’s the largest round disc on the left, called the "compression plate." It’s the surface that directly presses against the clutch disc.
The Spring: That’s the metal piece in the middle that looks like a ring of fingers, called the "diaphragm spring." It’s the most critical part—it acts as both the spring that provides the clamping force and a lever. When you press the clutch pedal, the release bearing pushes against the center of those "fingers," causing the entire spring to flex and pull the "compression plate" back, releasing the clamp.
The Housing and Fasteners: The part with a ring of holes at the top, called the "cover," is its frame. Then, a series of labeled "bolts" are used to fasten all these components together, and this entire assembly is then bolted onto the engine flywheel.
Small Parts: Those "rings" shown in the diagram are usually washers for adjustment, support, or anti-loosening purposes.

Clutch cover manufacturing process

Phase 1: Rough Cast:forge、sand blasting

Phase 2: Fine Processing:rough machining、reaming
Phase 3: Feature Structure Processing:finish machining
Phase 4: Auxiliary structure processing:Milling surfaces, milling holes、drill
Phase 5: Heat Treatment / Special Processes:Heat treatment and surface treatment
Phase 6: Final Product Inspection and Packaging

Key process control points

The flatness, roughness, hardness of the friction surface, as well as the overall dynamic balance are the most important indicators for evaluating the processing quality of the pressure plate.

Rigorous QC & Fitment Guarantee

We understand the critical importance of reliability. Every product undergoes stringent dimensional, material, and performance testing to meet the demands of heavy-duty applications. We offer precise VIN-based lookup services and clearly mark OEM part numbers to eliminate fitment doubts.

Expert Advice for Optimal Performance

To ensure clutch system longevity and performance, we strongly recommend replacing the pressure plate, driven disc, and release bearing as a complete kit. Mixing old and new components leads to uneven stress and premature wear. Unsure about the correct part? Contact our technical support for precise recommendations.
