People in the heavy-duty truck clutch business all keep a mental ledger: a single business trip costs at least one or two thousand yuan in transport and lodging, while chatting on WeChat costs almost nothing. So many would rather stay glued to their phones than hit the road.
But some things simply can’t be done online.
When a major client hesitates to place an order, an old client suddenly reduces purchases, when you need to discuss long-term cooperation, or when a client has doubts about a clutch kit—in these situations, a face-to-face talk works better than online chat.
Heavy-duty truck clutches are heavy and bulky, so you can’t carry samples around everywhere. But you can prepare product photos, specification sheets, and OE number cross-reference lists for clutch discs, clutch pressure plates, and release bearings, save them on your phone or tablet, and show them to the client anytime during the meeting. If the client shows clear interest, confirm the model in advance, then arrange sample shipment after you return.
First, decide what problem this trip is meant to solve—the more specific the goal, the better. Second, bring all necessary materials; matching models on site is easier than doing it online. Third, learn in advance what vehicles the client has been selling recently and what problems they’ve encountered, so the conversation can get to the point.
If you can’t normally get a client to meet, a trade show is the best opportunity. Schedule a time with the client in advance and invite them to sit down at the BEWO booth. Physical samples are available at the show, so the client can personally handle clutch discs, pressure plates, and bearings, inspect workmanship, and match models—far more effective than sending a hundred pictures online. Once you’ve talked, you can also settle the next steps of cooperation face to face.
Some clients don’t have time to meet, or a visit to them still won’t get to the bottom of things. In that case, try the other direction—invite them to visit the BEWO clutch factory.
At the factory, the client can see the production lines, warehouse inventory, and quality inspection process with their own eyes. How heavy-duty truck clutches are made, what materials are used, and how they are packed becomes clear at a glance. Quite a few BEWO clients started placing bulk orders after just one visit. Once they’ve seen it, they have confidence.
Online, someone can read your message and not reply; in person, they can’t just turn around and walk away. Sitting down and laying out the sticking points—payment terms, after-sales—often makes it easier for them to loosen up. After meeting, what the client remembers is “the person who came to my shop” or “the clutch factory I visited,” not an avatar on WeChat.
In one sentence: your legs are your own, but time should be spent on the right people—and when it’s time to travel, don’t skimp on the fare. If you can’t meet, invite them to a trade show or your company. A hundred messages on your phone are worth less than sitting across from a client over a cup of tea.
