Product Overview
The stock 1FZ-FE clutch (found in Land Cruiser 80/105 Series, LX450, etc.) is renowned for being extremely durable but very heavy to operate. Upgrading is typically not about pure performance racing, but about addressing stock drawbacks, adapting to power increases, or enhancing reliability for heavy-duty off-roading, towing, or moderate power upgrades.
Key Components & Options
An upgraded clutch is a system, not just a single part. Key components include:
Performance Diaphragm Spring Plate: The most popular choice. Retains the stock release mechanism but uses a stronger spring and improved materials to provide 30%-100% more clamp load than stock, often with a lighter pedal feel. This is the ideal choice for most users.
Ceramic/Sintered Iron Material: Extremely high friction coefficient and heat capacity. Very durable. However, engagement can be harsh, it can be hard on the flywheel and pressure plate, and places more shock on the drivetrain. Recommended only for high-horsepower or pure competition use.
Lightweight Flywheel: Reduces rotational mass, improving engine responsiveness and rev speed. Downsides include easier stall at low speeds, less stable idle, and poorer crawl control. Only recommended for on-road performance builds.
